Jekyll Island Georgia

Sarah spent the week before Father's Day at Jekyll Island with Dale's parents and her two cousins, Logan and Connor. Dale and I went up on Friday and left on Father's Day. The kids had a wonderful time before we got there and Sarah was eager to show us around the island when we got there.

I was surprised how much she enjoyed the waves.

Ninny, Dad, Poppa and Sarah enjoying the sand and shade. This was the week of record breaking temps, 100+ with head indices of 110+

Poppa made this sand gator. Sarah was holding it back so it would not eat the smaller one that I made.

There are beautiful homes here that have been restored and are now Hotels and stores.

This was the old infirmary used in the early 1900's, it is now a bookstore.

These are some of the titles in the book store. It was so southern, I loved it. I could have spent an entire day and several hundred dollars in there. I love the title of the book in the middle. Stop Dressing Your Six Year Old like a Skank.

Someone carved this in the tree coming out of the campground.

This was Sarah's big night. She could not wait to play Putt Putt. Mr. Plain (poppa) went with us to keep score. The three of us, me, Dale and Sarah are very competitive. I can't explain how hot it was out there even late in the evening.

Sarah loved the turtle, it seemed to be the theme on the island.

She enjoyed the playground while we waited on our pizza. You can see Dale and Mr. Plain taking it easy in the background.

This Picture Says It All!

There is no place I would rather be, no better people to be there with and no flag that I would rather salute. God Bless My Southern Friends and Family!

Lulu and Sissy, AKA "The Escape Artists"

Lulu and Sissy are establishing very unique personalities. They appear to be very docile and lazy pups. However, do not let them fool you. When you turn your head they are looking for trouble. They have a fenced area that is huge, with plenty of pecan trees for shade, a kiddie pool to swim in and a house with hay and a blanket, just in case it rains. This however is not what they want. If you turn your back for one minute they are out. It is any one's guess how they accomplish this. The fence is reinforced with chicken wire and the best gate money can buy. Not to mention their legs are only about 2 inches long and the wire is at least 4 feet high. Regardless, they crack me up with their innocent and sad faces.

"Seriously, do you think I can get out of that fence?"

Two of a kind!

"I swear it was'nt us"

Sarah enjoyed a small cake at Ninny's and Poppy's house Thursday, June 4th. She had just spent an entire week at their house along with Logan and Connor, her cousins.

The smiles on their faces tell me they had a great week.

We brought Sissy and Lulu over for her birthday. This was the first time she saw them, it was instant love.

Ninny gave her a whole bag full of treats for her new puppies.

Planting Granpa's Tree

I was given a gift card to a local nursery by my coworkers when Grandpa passed away last Christmas day. I have hung onto it for all these months trying to decide which type tree I could plant that would remind me of him. I finally chose a sycamore.

I remember sitting on his front porch just about every night and swinging on that big ol' front porch swing. There was a huge sycamore tree in the center of the front yard just feet from the steps. It was a beautiful tree and attracted many birds. To this day I can still here the whippoorwills and the Bob Whites calling out in the summer night. Lord, I miss him.

Sarah and Dale did the planting.

Sarah Turns 6

Sarah had a wonderful birthday with her friends and family on June 6th. She turned 6 the day before. It poured rained for a few days before the party and was cloudy the day of but despite the rain soaked yard the girls sure had a blast.
Her new favorite movie is High School Musical. She is in love with Troy, hence the picture.

Sarah had a mini-meltdown towards the end of the party. I was so embarrassed that she was acting this way at her own party. I apologized to Cheryl. Cheryl came to my rescue with humor. She said all that was wrong with Sarah is that she is not used to playing with the kids for very long. She was missing her big girlfriends, Deb, Ruby and Tammy.

Debra was quick to fix that with a big girl party at Goose. She is back in her comfort zone.
